NFL Players Offer Instruction and Inspiration to Youth Football Enthusiasts

In 2015, Will Compton Camps, LLC, partnered with TeamMates of Lincoln (teammates.org) to bring a youth football camp to Nebraska and the UNL campus. In its inaugural year, the camp featured seven Nebraska football alumni including Will Compton, Lavonte David, Kenny Bell and Josh Mitchell.

“I had worked with Dr. Osborne and TeamMates shortly after graduation,” said Compton, linebacker for the Washington Redskins. “I reached out through my agent to coordinate a youth football camp because I thought it was important to give back to the kids who came out to cheer the Huskers every Saturday. It wasn’t hard to convince some of my old teammates to come back to Lincoln to do the same.”

This year’s camp on June 27th, at Cook Pavilion, will be led by Compton, Ameer Abdullah, Adam Carriker, Lavonte David, Jeremiah Sirles, Kenny Bell, and Josh Mitchell.

“Our goal is to bring youth closer together through common interest in sportsmanship and competition; instill values of education; teach safe fundamentals of football; build character, discipline and love of the game; encourage good grades, balance school and athletic endeavors; and provide a fun activity for youth in our community.

“In a few years we might see one of our campers playing in the NFL and returning to provide inspiration and instruction to yet another generation of players,” said Compton. Camp proceeds to benefit TeamMates. Register at www.willcomptonfootballcamp.com.
