Nonprofit Association of the Midlands Sets Dates of Finance Fundamental Series

The Nonprofit Association of the Midlands (NAM; www.nonprofitam.org/events) believes that non-profits have an obligation to act as responsible stewards in managing their financial resources. This is why they are offering training opportunities through their Finance Fundamental Series. Upcoming trainings will be held on February 19 and March 1 in the NAM Training Room (11205 Wright Cir., STE 210).

The February training, 990’s for Beginners, will be from 8:30–10:30 a.m. Presenters Jerry O’Doherty with Seim Johnson will answer the questions about organizations’ Form 990 that many representatives may be too afraid to ask. Attendees will walk away with a solid understanding of Form 990.

The March training, Federal Tax Law Changes, will be from 9–11 a.m. Presenters Brandon Dickerson, Like Meyerson Hatch LLC and Lorraine Egger, KPMG, will discuss the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that became effective on January 1, 2018 and significant tax law changes that affect tax-exempt organizations. The IRS has not yet provided much guidance on many facets of these new changes. Specifically, the new law treats certain expenses associated with transportation benefits provided to employees as unrelated business income that may need to be reported to the IRS by non-profit employers and taxed at the new 21% corporate tax rate.

All non-profits must comply with all legal requirements related to financial matters. Registration is required for both events, $35 for NAM members; $70 for not-yet members. Register online at www.nonprofitam.org/events.
