People’s City Mission Receives $25,000 Donation for Peanut Butter and Jelly

Yep, you read that right. An anonymous donor stepped up to the plate in late December and made a unique—but wildly helpful—donation to People’s City Mission (pcmlincoln.org): $25,000 for peanut butter and jelly. Indeed, that’s a LOT of peanut butter and jelly, but the donation was made on the tenet that PB&J’s are a very good source of fast protein, and the most universally popular sandwich of people living on the streets. The donor was right about that—and when you consider that People’s City Mission (PCM) hands out 100 meals-to-go every day, in addition to the more than 700 daily homemade meals served in their dining room, think how many lives this donation can affect!

With the generous donation in hand, PCM’s kitchen manager ordered more than 300 cases each of peanut butter and jelly in January to use for sandwiches and also to hand out to clients at the PCM Help Center and to other nonprofits in the city. There’s more to the story, too. This anonymous donor is ready to deliver another $25,000 check for more PB&J when this supply is gone. You can be part of helping make these meals-to-go, too, either by providing additional materials or assembling meals.

People’s City Mission’s Help Center, 6800 P St, is their primary distribution point for free food, clothing, household items, furniture, toys, and personal items, all through public donations.
