Voices of Hope, Lincoln’s crisis center for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, is holding a fundraising event to honor Lincoln’s own wonder women. SHAZAM!: A Tribute to Lincoln’s Wonder Women will be held Thursday, October 24 at NET’s Event room, 1800 N. 33rd St. from 6-9 pm. The event centers around the showing of a PBS documentary titled, “Wonder Women: The Untold Story of American Superheroines,” which tells the story of how the comic character Wonder Woman changed through the years as the role of women in our society changed. The cost of the event is $50. NET is a co-sponsor for this event.

To pay tribute to Lincoln’s own Wonder Women, the event will also feature the awarding of Lincoln’s first SHAZAM Superheroine Awards: 1) Community Leadership Heroine Award; 2) Activism in Women’s Issues Award; 3) Youth Heroine Award; and 4) Unsung Super Heroine for Victims of Domestic Violence Award. Voices of Hope is accepting nominations for the awards from now until October 11th. For a description of the awards and qualifications or to register online to attend, go to www.voicesofhopelincoln.org and click on the SHAZAM tab.

Voices of Hope is encouraging those attending to come dressed as their own favorite super heroine or to use masks that will be provided to create their own superheroine mask during the social hour.
