Southeast Community College (www.southeast.edu) began teaching theatre courses in Lincoln this fall and has expanded its curriculum within that discipline.

Michael Allen Hollinger, an Ashland native whose professional experience lies in both the performance and production of film, television, web, and theatre, is the new adjunct instructor of theatre at SCC. In addition to teaching theatre courses in Lincoln, a new SCC Theatre Troupe based at the College’s Education Square location in downtown Lincoln will be directed by Hollinger. The Troupe, designed as a small production with limited sets and costumes due to limited facilities and rehearsal space, officially launched this fall. Students auditioned to be part of this group and are eligible to receive scholarships during their time in the group. Persons interested in becoming part of SCC’s Theatre Troupe in the future are asked to contact Hollinger at mhollinger@southeast.edu.

The theatre curriculum has also expanded with the addition of Film Appreciation, which is offered online for now. Deborah Freeman, speech and drama instructor in the Humanities Department at the Beatrice Campus, is teaching Film Appreciation during the Fall Quarter. In the future the course will be taught in both Lincoln and Beatrice, face-to-face and online.
