Southeast Community College Welcomes New Executive Chef Mike Vandenberg
Recently Southeast Community College (www.southeast.edu/course) spent $4.2 million renovating their space for their Culinary/Hospitality program, as well as adding the new high-end restaurant, Course. To go along with the new facility, they’ve recently hired a new executive chef, Mike Vandenberg. Since graduating from Southeast Community College’s Food Service/Hospitality program in 2008, Vandenberg has been very active on the Lincoln restaurant scene by helping to open many local restaurants, including Fireworks, Dozo and Single Barrel. With 16 years of restaurant experience, Vandenberg is looking forward to using his knowledge to help the students while working in SCC’s state-of-the-art facility
Alongside Vandenberg are the students who primarily run the restaurant and who spend a term working in the restaurant so they get a feel for the industry. Mike would like to create more awareness about the restaurant, and reminds the community that without customers in the restaurant it’s hard for the students to learn. He also reminds patrons that the money spent on dining at Course goes directly back into the program. The restaurant is open for lunch four days a week and dinner once a week. The restaurant is located on Southeast Community College’s Campus at 8800 O St.
