National championships are hard to come by, but Super Saver’s Bob Voss recently won his second national title at the American Cured Meat Championships, presented by the American Association of Meat Processors. Voss, better known as “Smokin’ Bob,” won the 1st Place Grand Champion award in the Boneless Ham–Traditional class. All entries were judged based on aroma, flavor, eye appeal, color and texture. The competition included more than 600 entries in 27 product categories. Voss says he prepared the championship-winning ham using the same techniques and hand-selected ingredients he uses when smoking hams for customers at the Smoke House in the Super Saver store at 27th and Pine Lake Road in Lincoln. Voss also won a national Grand Champion award for Meat Snack Sticks in the 1990s. He and the B&R Stores Smoke House team frequently win awards at the state level for a variety of cured meats, including sausage and smoked turkey. Award-winning Smoke House products are available at all Super Saver locations.
