Project Kindle, a nonprofit organization with Nebraska ties, has won the 2010 “Create for a Cause – You Choose Awards” sponsored by Yahoo! Advertising and the Ad Council. The organization, which runs camps in Nebraska and California for children, young adults and families infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS, teamed up with Lincoln ad agency the minnow PROJECT to develop the submission, an interactive advertisement for the Yahoo! login page.

The submission was designed for Project Kindle’s iKnowHIV website, a place for youth to speak out about their experience living with HIV/AIDS. The focus of iKnowHIV is to educate youth about HIV/AIDS in order to eliminate the stigma associated with the disease.

The “Create for a Cause” contest was open to any advertising agency in the United States that had a new or existing campaign for a nonprofit organization. The contest consisted of two parts: the grand prize competition judged by industry professionals, and the “You Choose Awards”, which utilized social media to engage the public and decide a “popular” winner.
