Lincoln Tent was established in 1903 and purchased by Tom Miller and his wife Charlyn in 1971. A number of Miller family members have worked at Lincoln Tent and many of the workers have been there so long they are considered family. A tent rental company, Lincoln Tent also offers flooring, staging and lighting for rent for a full tent experience.

What do you think makes you different from other companies similar to yours?
There are very few tent companies in the U.S that still manufacture their own product. Most companies have someone who made the tent, another person who rents it and yet another person who sets it. Lincoln Tent does all of it. We can make anything custom as well as repair a multitude of things like boat covers or zippers, and it’s all done right here in our shop.

What do you like about doing business in Lincoln?
Lincoln has afforded us the opportunity to work close to home. The friends and families of the company live here and we’re happy to stay close to home.

What kind of community organizations/groups are you involved with?
We’re members of IFAI (Industrial Fabrics Association International), the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and LIBA (Lincoln Independent Business Association).

Do you have a business philosophy or mission statement?
Our philosophy is basically that there’s no job too big or too small. We do every job if we have the man power! We had a client that wanted a tent that went from the beach into a lake, so we made it happen. Petal Creations did a wedding with us and they wanted a six foot flower box hung over the head table, so we did it! Whatever we can do to make our clients happy, we’re going to try.

What changes have you seen in the industry and your company in the past few years?
We can’t ever see the future in our industry. It just seems like every year more and more goes into tents. More flooring options or lighting or crazy locations. We just take each year as it comes and do our best to give our audience what they want.

What do you see happening with the business in the next five years?
A few months ago we purchased 10 acres of land located right behind our current shop. Our inventory has been growing consistently and we’ve just simply run out of space to put it all. We’re excited for the expansion and going to have a Lincoln Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting and open house in October to celebrate.

What has been your most important achievement as a business?
We’ve been a part of so many amazing opportunities, it’s hard to just pick one. We got to be a part of the Special Olympics last year which was really neat. The Cattlemen’s Ball here in Nebraska which raises money and awareness for cancer research is one of our oldest events we’ve been a part of and houses the largest tent we’ve done to date.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about your business that most people don’t know?
We travel all over. Routinely, in the warmer months, we travel to Minnesota, South Dakota, Kentucky, Ohio and Illinois as well as our neighboring states and all over the state of Nebraska.
