Do you like hanging out with your friends?  Do you enjoy trying something new?  If you answered yes to both of these questions, then you should definitely consider checking out The Corky Canvas, a new business located near Shoguns restaurant at 3700 South 9th Street, Suite C.  The Corky Canvas is owned and operated by Angie Bergren, who was introduced to the idea when she was in Denver visiting some friends and was taken to an “entertainment-style” art class.  With a paint brush in one hand, a glass of wine in the other and the music blasting, she had a great time and knew she needed to bring the concept back to Lincoln.

The Corky Canvas
offers adults the chance to meet up with friends, co-workers, etc and spend an evening painting and sipping some wine! Plus, you get to take home your artwork that night; and, the best part is, you don’t have to be artistic at all! The classes are led by an instructor who will help you, step-by-step, to create your masterpiece.  You can also book private parties which are great for birthdays, team building, bachelorette parties and more!

We visited The Corky Canvas for our staff Christmas party and had such a blast.  We were able to bring in gifts and had our gift exchange before the class started.  When others started showing up for the class, we all decided whether we wanted to create the painting that was on tap for the evening or if we wanted to venture out and  try something different.  A few of us decided to paint the featured painting while  others decided to do their own thing as they are artistic and didn’t need any direction.

We all got our drinks from the bar (The Corky Canvas offers wine, beer, soda, etc), then prepared our palettes with the correct squirts of paint.  Angie, our instructor for the evening, got up on a stage at the front of the room and got everyone started on their background painting, then cranked up the music and let everyone work while walking around and helping out where she was needed.  About every fifteen minutes or so, she would stop the music and get everyone started on the next step of the painting.  This made it very easy to create a beautiful painting as you just had to follow the steps that Angie laid out.  Even those of us working on a different painting were surprised at how easy it was to recreate a work of art with the help of someone who knew the steps.

Within the space of about two hours, we had completed a painting, had some drinks and had a wonderful time with each other.  This was truly a unique experience and one that we all expressed interest in repeating.  Our group consisted of those who had never painted anything in their lives to a couple of artists who created artwork on a regular basis and we found that we all equally enjoyed the experience.

In addition to painting classes such as the one we attended, The Corky Canvas also offers special classes (such as the Kids Painting series for holidays where children can come in and create mini-paintings.) So, make sure you’re keeping up with their calendar on Facebook or their website!  We recommend an evening at The Corky Canvas to anyone who loves a unique and fun experience and we commend Angie Bergren on bringing such a wonderful business to Lincoln!
