We’ve found that businesses as well as the business owners in Lincoln appreciate that.
What kind of community organizations/groups are you involved with? – Because we have a local office in Lincoln, we’re involved with Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Sarpy Chamber of Commerce, and Better Business Bureau, as well as the Nebraska Craft Brewers Guild. We are also an affiliate member of the Nebraska Hospital Association as well as the Apartment Association of Nebraska, and our local intern Luke Walker is a member of YPG.
Do you have a business philosophy or mission statement? – Be Honest, Be Transparent, Be Attentive to Our Customer’s Needs.
What changes have you seen in the industry and your company in the past few years? – The natural gas industry changes constantly, and in this market (Lincoln) the idea of gas transportation has become too narrow-minded, with the common assumption that there’s only one way to buy natural gas. At WoodRiver Energy, we believe the focus should be on what is best for the individual customers, not always what is best for the supplier. Therefore, we build programs around our customers’ needs not what works best for WoodRiver.
What do you see happening with the business in the next five years? – WoodRiver Energy plans to continue building a strong customer base of commercial and industrial businesses in the Midwest through the grassroots efforts of our hardworking sales team.
What is one of the biggest challenges that your company has faced? – We welcome challenges, as they are what drives us as a company to understand the market and respond with products and services to meet those demands. We have specifically seen a lot of businesses move away from high risk, variable market-based products to more conservative, stable fixed-rate products. WoodRiver Energy understands that small businesses need price certainty and that’s something we can provide.
What has been your most important achievement as a business? – WoodRiver Energy recently acquired Connect Energy, a “AA credited” energy company in the Province of Saskatchewan. Connect Energy serves over 1,400 commercial and industrial customers.
What was the biggest turning point in your business? – The biggest turning point for WoodRiver Energy in the Lincoln market has been working with well-known and trusted businesses that are willing to vouch for WoodRiver and the value we can bring. Nothing goes further than word of mouth.

What is one goal for your business that you have yet to accomplish? – WoodRiver Energy’s goal in the Eastern Nebraska market is to interrupt the thought process of local businesses. Currently most Lincoln business are leaving themselves exposed to significant risk in the volatile natural gas market.
