I mentioned in last month’s letter that we would begin focusing on The 16 Monumental Secrets of Guerrilla Marketing for business owners in future letters and I still fully plan on doing this.  However, over the course of the last few weeks, I’ve noticed that many business owners would benefit from a primer before we launch into these helpful secrets.

I’ve met so many business owners or hopeful business owners in my work with the community who are brilliant.  They either have a brilliant idea, a brilliant head for business or are just amazing when it comes to connecting with people and promoting themselves.  However, no matter how brilliant you are, you won’t experience the success you want unless you have one important ingredient: FOCUS.  Without a clear, lasered-in focus the world’s greatest salesperson, marketing plan or business will likely only ever achieve mediocrity at its best and failure at its worst.

All of us need to focus on what really matters in our lives and it’s no different for business owners.  To make their business work, they MUST focus on what makes doing business with them DIFFERENT and BETTER than their competition.  Not only must they focus on what this difference is, but they must also focus on a clear goal of getting this information into the heads and hearts of their target audience.

What is YOUR primary focus as a business owner?  Do you have one?  Is it the right one?  Ask yourself these questions on a daily basis and work toward focusing on setting yourself apart, both with your marketing and with the way you position your product or service in the marketplace.  By incorporating this basic premise into your business, I think you’ll see a huge improvement in the public’s response to what you are trying to sell.

People and organizations with the clearest vision, goals and objectives will accomplish more and do it quicker than their competitors.  Avoid the biggest reasons for failure in relationships, partnerships, marriages, life and your marketing efforts–lack of direction and diffusion of talent. Let’s all get FOCUSED on our Brand and TENACIOUSLY stay after it day after day and we WILL succeed.
