Cheryl Thompson worked at The Bridal Gown Outlet in college and fell in love with working with brides and all that goes into wedding planning. She moved away for a few years after she got married, but when they moved back she began working at the store again. It had been a lifelong dream of Cheryl’s to own a bridal store, so when the previous owner asked if she was interested in purchasing the shop, she was overjoyed to accept. Elegant Occasions Gowns/The Bridal Gown Outlet is marking their 21st anniversary and are undergoing some exciting changes and updates. They have bridal, bridesmaid, prom, shoes, headpieces, custom veils and accessories and now offer tuxedo rentals as well. All of their gowns are brand new from the manufacturers, some are reorderable, while others have been ‘discontinued’ and marked down to sell off-the-rack. They have a large selection of sizes (from 0-30) and prices from $79-$1200.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Updating the store and working on rebranding. With “Outlet” in the old name people always have the impression we’re a consignment bridal shop. That has never been the case! When the name was chosen twenty years ago the name “Outlet” drew people in- but with the change of times, that title no longer appeals to customers.
Tell us a little about your family. – I’ve been married for 9 ½ years to Paul, the hardest working business partner ever- most of the changes and updates wouldn’t be possible without him! We have a beautiful, sweet, funny little one-year-old daughter.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Don’t stress about things out of your control.
What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish? – Someday…being able to retire.
