After graduating with an MBA from Creighton in 2007, Jake Muhleisen joined Union Bank as a Credit Analyst. He then transitioned to Private Banking and Commercial Loans in early 2008, converted to Commercial Loan Officer in 2009 and was recently promoted to Assistant Vice President. Jake works with a variety of businesses that range from veterinarians to trucking companies and contractors.
Tell us a little about your family.
My wife and I both grew up in Lincoln and love having our family close by. We have a beautiful daughter, Reese, who is 18 months going on 18 years.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
I would have to say when my daughter was born. She is such a blessing and she has definitely changed our lives for the better.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
I love to spend time with my family doing something outdoors or playing golf.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
An interesting aspect of my life is I have had the opportunity to travel throughout the continental US as well as various places outside the continental US. I traveled to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Australia, Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii. Australia was by far my favorite!
What are you the most proud of?
My family. My wife and daughter are the best things that have ever happened to me and I would not be who I am today without their love and support.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Growing up, my dad would always tell me the same thing each day before I walked out the door for school: “Do your best and treat people who you want to be treated.” I have always tried to go by that advice and I am already telling that to my daughter, who probably doesn’t have a clue what I’m saying yet!
What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
To run a full marathon. I will run my third half this May, but haven’t quite reached the full yet.
How would your friends describe you?
Hard working, loyal and a person who likes to have fun in all aspects of life.
Which talent would you most like to have?
I would love to be able to speak another language, especially Spanish or Portuguese.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
The last good book I read was The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine by Michael Lewis
What is your favorite movie?
My favorite movie would probably The Shawshank Redemption, mainly because whenever it is on TV I have to watch it.
What is your favorite TV show?
My all-time favorite show is Seinfeld, but my current favorite show would have to be Mad Men.
What is your favorite Lincoln restaurant?
Stauffer’s Café. Breakfast is my favorite meal and they have the best breakfast in town!
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
John Wooden. He would be very interesting to listen to and learn from.
