Jamie Smith was working as an office manager at a local insurance agency for five years before being promoted to agency owner.  This gave her the opportunity to gain experience and realize that she wanted to make her career in the insurance industry.  She has now owned and managed the Jamie Smith Agency since January of 2009.  This American Family Insurance agency sells all lines of insurance including home, auto, umbrella, life, health and commercial.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?
Earning our companies top award of Distinguished Life Diamond for quality life insurance sales and becoming an All American agent with American Family Insurance.

Tell us a little about your family.
I am not married and I don’t have any children or animals.  I have a brother who lives here in Lincoln, a step-brother who lives in Quincy, IL, my father and step-mother live here in Havelock, and my Mom and her boyfriend live in the village of Ong, NE.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
I had a car accident in 2004.  It took almost five years to settle and my insurance agent was not there for me or my parents.  I didn’t know what insurance was or how it worked at that time in my life.

Through that process I learned what people go through when they “learn the hard way” that they are underinsured.  My passion for my clients comes from this experience.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
Drive and go find somewhere I haven’t been before.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I am a pretty good shot when it comes to shooting guns.  I have my conceal carry license and my dad and I like to participate in Western Action Shooting out by Valpraiso, NE with a group called the Blue River Regulators under the National Congress of Old West Shootists.

What are you the most proud of?
Being halfway through my Master’s in Business program at Doane College.  I have about eight months left until I graduate.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
There is always someone worse off than you so when you feel like times are tough, they are, but they could always be worse.  Count your blessings and don’t forget to thank God.

Travel to all 50 states.
