Jason Reed – Tiger Rock Academy

Jason Reed started Tae Kwon Do training in 1999 at Tiger Rock Academy before beginning to assist lessons with instructor Master Jeff Dousharm. Tiger Rock Academy develops healthy lifestyles, positive values and a safer community.  This is accomplished through the teaching of Tae Kwon Do, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Yoga, Personal Safety Seminars and Wellness Programs.  Adults and children experience the benefits of the programs through lessons taught daily at the Academies and also through seminars taught in schools, businesses and organizations around the community. In 2003, Jason became a certified Tae Kwon Do instructor and fell in love with both the art and the people involved with Tae Kwon Do.  After working at Tiger Rock Academy for several years, Jason was recognized by his instructor as a critical asset for the future of the Academy and in 2006 was given the opportunity to become a partner in the company.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Life balance has been the biggest challenge I’ve faced professionally.  I love what I do for a living, but balancing my professional and family life can be challenging at times.  Luckily, I have a loving family who supports everything I do.

Tell me a little about your family. – I’ve been married for 3 years to my best friend Colleen and we have two kids, Spencer, 9 and Samantha, 5.  They mean more to me than anything.  My parents are Dennis and Sylvia Reed.  I also have 1 brother, Brian, and 2 sisters, Tina and Laura.  Also something unique in my family is that I am actually adopted.  I am very lucky to have amazing parents and now my own children who look to me to set the example and pass down our family values.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Having kids and becoming a part owner of Tiger Rock Academy have been the biggest turning points in my life.  Each of these made me realize and take on greater responsibilities and the idea of being a part of something greater than just myself.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – My favorite thing to do on my day off is spending time with my family and friends.  I also love to work out, watch college football and continue to read and research leadership and personal development so I can keep growing as a person.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – The best piece of advice I’ve received is committing to constant and never ending improvement in every area of my life.  Why settle for good enough or mediocrity when we have so much potential in ourselves to become better?  I feel we are each meant for greatness if we are willing to put in the work.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish? – The goal I’d most like to accomplish is the continued growth of our academies by providing opportunities for others to enter and be trained in this profession.  Opportunity was given to me and I feel obligated to mentor others and help them to see opportunities that are available to them so that they too can step up and become a business owner or entrepreneur.
