Lawrence Chatters began in the bar business in 2002 with The Chatterbox, then moved on to DJ at Main Street Café before being presented with the opportunity to buy the bar and restaurant in downtown Lincoln.  Main Street will celebrate 16 years of business this November. They have a variety of gourmet sandwiches, wraps and a salad bar and they are a full service bar at night.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Balancing my business, family, school, and DJ career.  I am currently wrapping up a PhD in educational psychology at UNL. I also DJ internationally.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I am very proud of Main Street Cafe! Owning it is certainly one of my greatest professional achievements. I am also pleased with being able to be an entrepreneur while continuing to pursue higher education.  Finally, I am proud of my DJ career, I have been to Europe and Asia to DJ and South America is next on the schedule.

Tell us a little about your family. – I am married to a wonderful woman, Katie, who works at the State Capitol. I have two sweet daughters, Airalon (a seven year old second grader at Hill Elementary) and Mikayla (a four year old per-schooler at First Plymouth).

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Deciding to go back to school to get a PhD. After getting a Masters in Counseling Psychology back in 2004 I was working full time at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. I loved the job, but I knew I could do more. I took a leap of faith and never looked back.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Spend time with my family. We love to go to Pioneers Park!

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I am an internationally known DJ. I have a large fan base in Europe and Asia.

What are you the most proud of? – I am most proud of my family! I found an exceptional partner and we have two beautiful, smart and healthy daughters.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – The best advice I received came from an older business owner here in Lincoln. He told me that the most important part of owning a business is the relationships you build with your employees, customers, and vendors. He said that as long as you had great relationships with all of them money would never be a problem.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish? – Finishing my PhD will be a huge accomplishment for me and my family.

How would your friends describe you? – Outgoing, friendly, thoughtful, and giving.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I am a great at making rhymes. I made a cd with my older sister. She sings and I rap. I love making music, but I just don’t have the time to these days.

Which talent would you most like to have? – I wish I could be a NASCAR Driver.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? – I would be in better shape!
