Nikki Watts’ mother has been in the insurance industry since graduating high school and her love of helping people was a huge influence on Nikki growing up. When Nikki graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha, she knew she wanted to open a business of her own and seeing how much her mom loved her job made her interested in that field. Watts Insurance Group is a family based, independent insurance agency dedicated to service and getting the right coverage at the best price. They represent several different companies, which means competitive pricing for their customers. They are also the endorsed provider for Dave Ramsey.
Tell us a little about your family.
I am the youngest of four. I have two half sisters and a half brother. I grew up just being an only child in a business family, so it was only natural for me to go the business route.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
My last year of college was rough. After graduation I took a month and a half vacation, came back started WIG and in the past couple of months everything seems like it has just been falling into place.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
Spending time with my friends and family doing whatever. I value my friends and family more than anything because I know I am who I am because of them and some days they are my rock to keep me grounded and my life jacket to keep me afloat.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I love hippos. They are adorable and make me smile.
What are you the most proud of?
Being where I am today.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
This isn’t a dress rehearsal. There are no do overs so do what you do and love it. Believe in yourself. Shoot for the stars. And always keep in mind what is going to be your legacy.
What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
I know, so typical, but to make this business something to be proud of and that can be kept in my family for generations to come.
How would your friends describe you?
The mom. I am always making the plans and taking care of them.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?
I have the worst memory EVER. But when I go scuba diving in the Bahamas I can name almost every fish I see.
Which talent would you most like to have?
Artistic talent.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I wish I would have tried harder and taken more business classes in high school and college.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
What Smart Women Know. It’s a funny and educational self-help book every woman should read.
What is your favorite movie?
Anything Disney. :) I am a kid at heart.
What is your favorite TV show?
Pretty Little Liars.
What is your favorite Lincoln restaurant?
Venue. I have never had a bad meal there.
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
Eleanor Roosevelt. She was an amazing an inspirational woman.
