With over 400 business and community leaders in attendance, the United Way Annual Leadership Breakfast was held at the Cornhusker Hotel in May. The event, sponsored by Allied Insurance, recognized companies and individuals giving at a leadership level.

2012 Campaign Chair, Barry Gates of U.S. Bank, praised the efforts of everyone in attendance for raising an unprecedented $6,739, 560 for the United Way/Community Health Charities Campaign. Recognized for their support of leadership giving during the 2012 Campaign, were HBE Becker Meyer Love LLP, U.S. Bank, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  UNICO Group, Inc., U.S. Bank and the State of Nebraska were recognized for their growth in new leadership donors.

In 2012, United Way joined Lincoln Public Schools in support of increasing the district’s on-time graduation rate to 87% by 2016.  Shelia Odom, Chair of the Women’s Leadership Council and Stacy Brass, a member of the Emerging Leaders Council, shared how the United Way Women’s Leadership Council and the Emerging Leaders Council are working together to help meet this goal through the  Engage. Empower. Graduate. Initiative.  This joint initiative, focused in the McPhee Elementary school community, will fund multiple programs that empower families and students to strive for achievement and on-time graduation.

Keynote speaker, Dr. Jamie Williams, Associate Athletic Director of Diversity and Leadership Initiatives at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, spoke on the importance of developing leadership in our youth.
