Bright Lights, a summer enrichment program for elementary and middle school students, recently finished a record-breaking year and is gearing up for a repeat in 2013. Their 2012 summer sessions filled the highest number of class spots in its history and served more than 1,600 students. Classes were offered on a variety of topics including engineering, crime scene investigation, architecture, arts, cooking, and health sciences. The classes were designed to promote hands-on learning and help students discover potential career paths. The program hopes to reach even more students during its 2013 sessions, which start June 3 and run through July 12.
Businesses have the opportunity to ensure students have continued access to these summer enrichment classes by participating in Bright Lights’ annual Class Sponsor and Scholarship Campaign. For donations of $600 or more, businesses can choose which class they are interested in sponsoring, and many businesses are able to sponsor classes that align with their organization’s interests. Businesses also have the option of sponsoring scholarships for individual students to attend classes. The campaign officially launches on October 3 and runs through November 30 with a goal of having 150 scholarship awards and all 110 classes sponsored.
