Nebraska Cheer Center is Lincoln’s only ALL-cheerleading focused training center.  They offer recreational cheer, tumbling, flight school, boot camps, and house the eight Titans competitive cheer teams.  Nicki Baker is the owner of Nebraska Cheer Center.

How did you get started in the business? – I have 15+ years of experience coaching cheerleading, tumbling and dance as I also grew up participating in each of these areas.  Three years ago I decided it was time to do it on my own instead of working for someone else.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Putting away my work.

What has been you most important achievement professionally? – Opening Nebraska Cheer Center and successfully running a business that continues to grow.

Tell me a little about your family. – I have been married to my college sweetheart for ten years.  We have one son, Ty, who is 9 years old and loves golf and soccer.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Having the courage to make the leap of faith and open Nebraska Cheer Center.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Hang out with my husband and son–we especially like to go to the movies!

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I love to read, and I am a sucker for a good book.  I especially like to read about overcoming adversity, strong athletes and powerful people.

What are you the most proud of? – Having my family stand behind me and support me 100% as we opened Nebraska Cheer Center.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Be yourself and treat everyone as you would like to be treated.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Kind. This quote has always stuck with me, “People may not remember what you did or said, but they will always remember how you made them feel.”

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Super speed! I feel like some days I just can’t keep up.

What is your greatest talent that you utilize in your daily work life? – Patience

Which talent would you most like to have? – I would love to be a good singer.  I am always singing, but cannot carry a tune at all.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I would simply teach any other subject.  I love working with kids.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Uncommon by Tony Dungy and Nathan Whitaker

What is your favorite movie? – Remember the Titans

What is your favorite TV show? – So You Think You Can Dance

What is your favorite local restaurant? – Lazlo’s

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Eleanor Roosevelt.  I like that she was outspoken for what she believed in and fought for social and political change.
