The Lincoln Stars hockey team is pleased to announce that, through their generous and supportive fans, they raised over $36,000 at their “White Out Against Cancer Night” to benefit the American Cancer Society on April 1, 2011. The Stars sold commemorative White Out t-shirts for the game, with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society, and encouraged all fans to wear white to the game.
The players were also involved in the fundraising through a “Buzz Cut Competition”, where fans were asked to donate money to the Stars player they most wanted to see receive a buzz-cut during the auction. Fans donated $2,500 for the contest. Stars’ rookie Zach Frye won the contest with 1,228 votes.
At the end of the evening, the Stars’ annual “Jerseys Off Our Backs” jersey auction was held. The live auction raised $32,300, with the Stars handing over their one-of-a-kind, autographed and game-worn jerseys to the winning bidders.
The Lincoln Stars are in their fifteenth season of competing in the United States Hockey League (USHL). The past fourteen seasons have included two Clark Cup championships, awarded to the USHL playoff champion, and three Anderson Cup championships, presented to the team with the most points at the end of the regular season.
