A ribbon cutting with the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce was recently held on August 10th to celebrate the opening of The Career Academy (www.thecareer.academy). Students officially began their first day of career pathways programming at the new facility, located at 8800 O Street, on August 12th.
The Career Academy is a joint venture between Lincoln Public Schools and Southeast Community College. The brand new facility offers juniors and seniors in LPS and the SCC region an opportunity to earn dual credits and have connected real world experiences in one of 16 different career pathways. Students attend TCA for just two hours a day with free transportation, free books, and free or 50% discounted tuition.
The pathways prepare students for anything from skilled and technical services to pre-professional, four year degree programs. Each has a Pathway Support Team made up of individuals dedicated to providing speakers, advisors, mentors, field experiences, and internships. TCA currently has over 150 total pathway support members representing over 100 businesses, institutions, and organizations in our community.
In this inaugural year, TCA is offering 14 pathways to over 350 students. These students represent a diverse population that nearly mirrors the diversity of students in LPS and the SCC region.
