With more than 87,000 square feet of fun and fitness, Lincoln Racquet Club is Lincoln’s premier family health and fitness complex. Jamie Sand is the Youth Services Director at Lincoln Racquet Club.
Tell us a little about your business. – Lincoln Racquet Club is the most complete health and fitness facility in Lincoln, featuring multiple fitness areas, an indoor track, a collegiate-sized basketball court, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, group fitness studios, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, racquetball courts, steam rooms, a hot tub, a massage therapy center, tanning rooms, meeting rooms, and a pro shop. We also provide a wide range of programs for children, including swimming lessons, tennis, exercise classes designed for kids, birthday parties and summer day camps. Our facility also includes a nursery and Junior Gym so children can play while their parents work out.
How did you get started in the business? – I started out as a Pilates instructor at LRC’s studio after I graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University and started my Master’s degree at University of Nebraska at Omaha. Later I became the manager of the Pilates studio and was recently named the Youth Services Director.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – I need more hours in the day to accomplish everything I want to get done in my new position!
Tell us a little about your family. – I have been married to my husband Gabe for 8 years and we have two sons, Easton (5) and Jase (2). We live in Wilber and my husband farms by Crete.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Have fun with my boys! We like to go on bike rides and walks. We also enjoy lake life and going to the farm to work and play, really just enjoying the fresh air outside.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I am 100% Czech and very proud of my heritage. I also live in the Czech Capital of the USA!
What are you the most proud of? – I grew up on a farm outside of Wilber and I am proud of the work ethic that my parents instilled in me and that my husband and I are instilling in our family.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Hardworking.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? – To tap my wand and my house would be magically clean and laundry done.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I would be a physical therapist. I love helping people, especially when their bodies are in pain and I can make them feel better!
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – The Boys In The Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown.
What is your favorite movie? – Pitch Perfect.
What is your favorite TV show? – Madam Secretary and The Good Wife.
What is your favorite local restaurant? – Venue Restaurant & Lounge.
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. I think she is such a strong role model for women in our country.
