The Nebraska Safety Council (www.nesafetycouncil.org) is currently enrolling students for its fall driver’s education classes which are set to begin in October.  The course provides 20 hours of classroom instruction and 5 1/2 hours of behind-the-wheel training which includes testing to obtain the student’s provisional operator’s permit (POP).

According to a study conducted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, teens taking a formal driver education course had fewer crashes, fewer injury or fatal crashes, and less moving violations or alcohol-related violations than teens that had an informal education using the 50-hour certification log method.

This was in spite of the fact that the log method provides more behind-the-wheel practice.

VisitNebraska Safety Council at www.nesafetycouncil.org  for dates, locations, and online registration. The cost for the course is $325.
