Serving the Lincoln community for 14 years, The Landing at Williamsburg Village is an Immanuel Community nestled in south Lincoln near 40th and Old Cheney Rd.  John Croghan is the Executive Director for The Landing at Williamsburg Village (www.immanuelcommunities.com).

Tell us a little about your business. – The Landing at Williamsburg Village is Lincoln’s Premier Retirement Community.  We offer Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Support, and a skilled care community (operated by Tabitha) on our campus.  We offer several amenities for our residents which include a state of the art fitness center, an indoor pool and hot tub, social and educational activities, and chef-prepared meals, just to name a few.

How did you get started in the business? – I used to volunteer at a nursing home growing up and in college I worked in both the dietary and activities departments of a nursing home.  The time spent there set the frame work for my professional journey in working with seniors.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – In this industry, we have the opportunity to create strong personal relationships with our residents.  It is always challenging when our residents either need to move to a different care setting or pass away.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I have looked at every opportunity along my professional journey as an important one, especially the opportunity to open a retirement community, oversee multiple retirement community locations, and work within an affordable retirement community.

Tell us a little about your family. – I’ve been married for 12 years to my beautiful wife Krista.  We have two children, Noah (10), and Bella (8).

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – The most significant impacts to my life have been the largest turning points.  That includes marriage to my wonderful wife, welcoming two children into the world, and saying goodbye to those important people in my life whose time on Earth was done.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I enjoy playing the guitar, piano, reading, watching movies, and just generally relaxing with the family.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I once rode a calf during a rodeo in Arcadia, NE when I was about 8 or 9 years old.  I looked the part, but only lasted about 1.5 seconds.  The taste of the dirt kept me from continuing that activity!

What are you the most proud of? – I am most proud of my marriage and my children.  Being a parent is a humbling journey, and one I feel fortunate to be on.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Broadway Singer or Rock Star.

What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I serve on the statewide leadership council for the Alzheimer’s Association.  I have worked with people that suffer from Alzheimer’s or some form of dementia my whole professional career.  Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease that needs advocacy and people to champion a cure, which is why I am involved.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – This is easy:  Sebastian’s Table (A must-try if you haven’t yet.)

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Elvis Presley.
