The Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home (http://dhhs.ne.gov/veterans) in Bellevue, NE recently received full certification on its annual Health Care System Survey from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the sixth year in a row.

The facility, part of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, had no deficiencies in the areas of life safety, resident care, environment, nursing, staff training and development, dietary/food service, banking and billing services for veterans, recreation/activities, medical staff credentialing, social work, and all areas related to quality assurance and care.

The VA surveyors were comprised of an interdisciplinary team including fiscal surveyors, registered nurses, a clinical health surveyor and a life safety code surveyor.

“Besides having an outstanding staff, the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home is also fortunate to have overwhelming support from our service organizations and hundreds of volunteers,” said Troy Schulz, the facility’s administrator. “Everyone connected with the Eastern Nebraskan Veterans’ Home contributes to the consistently high standards of care we provide.”

Schulz said he is proud of the ENVH staff and is honored to be part of the Nebraska DHHS Division of Veterans’ Homes, which focuses on caring for members and doing the right thing–part of the DHHS mission to “help people live better lives.”

The Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home, originally known as the Thomas Fitzgerald Veterans Home located in Omaha, opened its doors in their new facility in Bellevue, Nebraska on July 14, 2007.
