Nina Bui earned a $1,500 scholarship during UNL’s Chemistry Day program where she and five other Pius X students participated in science demonstrations, chemistry lab tours, hands-on science experiments, and competitions. The annual event promotes UNL’s Chemistry program, careers in chemistry, and scholarship opportunities.
Scott Allder, David Liescheski, and Nina Bui swept top honors at the annual Chemistry Day. The three Pius X (www.piusx.net) seniors participated in the event held Saturday, October 3 at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln (UNL) and each claimed one of the five $1,500 scholarship prizes.
The UNL Chemistry Department hosted approximately 100 students and teachers from across the state in which the next generation of scientists participated in science demonstrations, chemistry lab tours, hands-on science experiments, and competitions. Students, parents, and teachers also used this opportunity to learn more about the UNL’s undergraduate Chemistry program, careers in chemistry, and scholarship opportunities. Students were encouraged to apply for a scholarship to the school and submitted their high school transcript prior to taking part in the Chemistry Day activities.
Pius X High School earned recognition as a 2014 School of Excellence by the Catholic Education Honor Roll, ranking it amongst the top five percent of Catholic high schools in the country. Now in its 60th year, Pius X has grown to more than 1,225 students in grades 9-12.
