TeamMates Invites Community Partners to Join the “And One” Campaign
TeamMates (www.lincolnteammates.org) hopes to set a record of no students waiting for a caring adult mentor to help them reach their full potential.
Businesses who would like to get involved or who currently encourage employees to mentor are invited to host an “and one” event. Bring employees who are current and potential mentor together for a presentation by the TeamMates staff. Current partners are encouraged to recruit another business to foster employee mentoring.
By encouraging mentoring, your organization will be part of TeamMates “and one” effort, a concept that comes from basketball.
In a recent presentation, basketball Coach Jim Molinari drew three analogies between the “and one” play on the basketball court to mentoring and recruiting a mentor for another student.
Just like getting the ball through the hoop, mentoring can be challenging at times. Yet, that persistence in the face of obstacles can also be one of the most rewarding experiences that an individual can have.
The results, a player following through to make a basket or mentoring a student each week, can be uncommonly exciting.
Just as the “and one” play can change the momentum of a game; when a child is matched with a mentor, it can change the “momentum” of that student’s life. Encouraging mentoring can also positively change the momentum of your business. TeamMates (www.lincolnteammates.org) invites your business to join “and one.” To learn more, email lincolnteammates@lps.org.
