TeamMates Makes College More Accessible
This May, over 80 TeamMates (LincolnTeamMates.org) will graduate from Lincoln’s high schools. Many have been with their mentors for nearly 10 years. Throughout the community, generous individuals and businesses have given funds so that 35 of these young people will begin their post-secondary education or training with the help of LPS TeamMates scholarships. That number does not include the students who have received scholarships from the national TeamMates office or mentor support while writing essays and filling out forms for other scholarships.
TeamMates mentors are committed to guiding students on the path to success by helping them to set goals and by staying consistent. For these students, getting into college makes a contribution not only to their own lives, but also to the communities in which they live. “My goal is to pursue a career that makes a positive impact on the world, Pediatric Nursing,” said a graduating senior. “Being in TeamMates has allowed me to grow and learn more about how to be a responsible person. I have learned about post-high school opportunities, and my mentor has been a positive role model, continuing to encourage me to do good things in life.”
