SP Group, P.C. provides a variety of services for individuals and types of businesses, including: tax planning, business startup services, income tax preparation, quickbooks support and training, payroll setup and reporting, and assurance services.
How long have you been in Lincoln? – Since 2003; this is milestone year for us as we celebrate our 15th anniversary!
Who are the owners/important executives? – Our team of seasoned and knowledgeable professionals include: David E. Swan (managing shareholder), Darin Petersen (partner), Jason Hardy (certified personal accountant), Kelly Barada (certified personal accountant), Mark Nave (certified personal accountant), and Troy Stentz (enrolling agent). These professionals are supported by a group of team accountants and our administrative team, led by Theresa Roggenkamp.
Do you have a business philosophy or mission statement? – SP Group, P.C. was founded on these four core values: relationships, the power of team, life/work balance and competitiveness. We believe in positive relationships. The SP Group team of uniquely talented individual members combine into one strong, cohesive team. We work as a team, we win as a team. By encouraging healthy life/work balance, we give the same energy to serving our clients as we devote to our personal interests, our family and friends and our communities. What do you think makes you different from other companies similar to yours? – We want to provide clients with the service they deserve from a team that truly cares about them. Our approach is to build long-term relationships with clients and their families that lead to sustained success. Our firm’s simple beginnings have kept us humble. Our pride is in the success of our clients and the path we have traveled together as we’ve grown alongside them.
What was the biggest turning point in your business? – We’ve been on the entrepreneurial journey at the same time as many of our clients. That’s provided many opportunities for us to understand exactly what our clients are experiencing.

What kind of community organizations/groups are you involved with? – Industry organizations such as Nebraska Society of CPA’s and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants participating in AICPA and members of CPAFMA and AICPA PCPS. We also volunteer in our community, through coaching various youth sports teams.
What would you say is the most unique or interesting thing about your business that most people don’t know? – Larry “The Dr. Pepper Guy” Culpepper once worked for our firm. (It was just for a day on Halloween, though.)
What has been your most important achievement as a business? – Our company culture and team members aren’t what would typically come to mind in terms of the normal “accountant” stereotype, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
What is one of the biggest challenges that your company has faced? – It’s largely been finding more talented people to add to our team to accommodate the steady growth of our firm.
What changes have you seen in the industry and your company in the past few years? – We have seen consistent growth in our practice and team. Our clients are winning and we are fortunate to be growing with them!
What do you see happening with the business in the next five years? – We plan to stay on the same trajectory, and in doing so we hope to continue to see the growth of our people and growth for our clients.
