JDRF, Governer’s Office Confirm Official Proclamation for Diabetes Awareness Month in Nebraska
The Governor’s office, in collaboration with JDRF (www.jdrf.org), confirmed the official proclamation signing for November Diabetes Awareness Month in Nebraska will be November 19 at the Capitol.
JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, is focused throughout November, National Diabetes Awareness Month (NDAM), on raising awareness of type 1 diabetes and the urgent need to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent, and treat T1D and its complications. JDRF Lincoln and Greater Nebraska is staging a range of activities and events to engage the local community during the month-long campaign.
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic, life-threatening autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults at any age. In T1D, the immune system destroys the cells that release insulin, eventually eliminating insulin production from the body.
With the more commonly known type 2 diabetes, the body isn’t able to use insulin the right way. This is called insulin resistance. T1D requires rigorous 24/7 monitoring of blood glucose levels to avoid devastating complications. T1D onset is sudden and unpreventable.
JDRF Lincoln and Greater Nebraska serve to deliver early and ongoing meaningful support and resources from the moment of diagnosis throughout the constant ups and downs of navigating life with T1D. If you or someone you know is interested in any of JDRF’s outreach or support programs, please contact lincoln@jdrf.org / (402) 484-8300.
