Food Fort Expands Free Produce Stand Program with New Trailer
Food Fort (www.lincolnfoodfort.com) is so excited about expanding their Free Produce Stand Program, which started back up again in the spring, with the addition of a new trailer. The trailer has gone through renovations to become a produce trailer on wheels, making it fully insulated, equipped with a cooling unit and storage area for far more produce than Food Fort was able to offer in years past. The trailer will officially be up and running by June 1.
Through a partnership with Produce from the Heart, Food Fort’s Free Produce Stand Program provides a completely free produce stand in each of their three locations every week. This not only gives them an opportunity to bring fresh produce into the hands of under-resourced youth in our community, but it is also an opportunity to bring an educational piece right into the their neighborhoods on healthy eating and nutrition.
Food Fort is a non-profit dedicated to serving children in under-served neighborhoods. They are currently focused on serving three target neighborhoods in Lincoln: 29th and Holdrege on Mondays at 5:30 p.m., North Chester St. and West Dawes Ave. on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., and 13th and Saratoga on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. Find out more about Food Fort’s program at www.lincolnfoodfort.com, or contact (402) 540-4445 / lincolnfoodfort@gmail.com.
