How did you get started in the business?

I have always loved being outside, and I ended up going to school at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for Turf and Landscape Management. During school, I had internships at golf courses in Colorado and Washington, and landscape internships in Omaha and Lincoln. After a year out of college working on golf courses, I decided to move back to Omaha for the winter. It was then when I met my business partner and after talking about it, we decided to start a company.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

To be able to have grown Heroes Management Services to the point where we can provide jobs for more than 15 full-time employees here in the Lincoln and Omaha area.

Tell us a little about your family.

My girlfriend Kailey and I have a house in Omaha with our Australian cattle dog Della Rose. We both went to UNL and enjoy going to all Nebraska sporting events, as well as sampling the ever growing beer/brewery scene in Lincoln and Omaha.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?

Deciding on starting this company. It was something I didn’t plan on doing at the time, but figured I could give it a try and see what happens. Seven years later, I am extremely glad we started it and am excited to see what the future holds.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?

Days off for me are far and few between. They are more or less ‘work day lite’. However, taking our dog on an extended walk around the neighborhood or to the dog park is a great way to spend some relaxation time.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

My favorite quote was from my piano teacher back when I was taking piano lessons in elementary school: “There is only one way to eat an elephant: one bite at a time.”

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?

The last book I listened to was 11/22/63 by Stephen King. It’s a long one but a great read.

What is your favorite movie?

Twister. Whenever we are going to have bad spring and summer weather in Nebraska, it seems that the movie is always on TV.

What is your favorite TV show?

Friday Night Lights.
