Heartland Cancer Foundation Heartland Classic Nets $37K for Patient Assistance
The Heartland Cancer Foundation’s (heartlandcancerfoundation.org) 6th Annual Heartland Classic golf tournament at Firethorn Golf Club was a tremendous success, with a sold-out event on a beautiful day raising $37,000 for the Foundation. Players started the day with a socially distanced luncheon in their individual carts, while Bronson Reilly, board-certified geneticist and director of research at Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center made a presentation about the importance of genetic testing for certain cancers and explained who should be tested and why.
Following the luncheon, golfers headed out on the course with a midday shotgun start, off to an exciting start with Dave Slagle’s hole-in-one! The perfect shot garnered Dave a $10,000 prize through Hole In One International. Other awards were for the shot closest to the flag, a bourbon pull, several hole-in-one opportunities, and a chance to win a large bucket of balls for shooting closest to a specified target. Finishing first was the Union Bank & Trust team of Tony Miller, David Easley, Chad Ideus, and Tom Cockle, followed by the second-place Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center team of Nate Green, Troy Stonacek, Justin Stonacek, and Dave Slagle.
The Heartland Cancer Foundation’s programs are designed to provide practical assistance to low-income cancer patients so they can focus on healing. They help qualifying cancer patients with housing (mortgage and rent assistance), car payments, gas cards, and utilities.
