Retiring Board Members Dedicated a Combined 18 Years to Matt Talbot
Two members of the Board for Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (mtko.org)—Greg Ernst and Dave Smith—recently retired after each served nine years, or a combined 18 years of dedication to the mission of providing safe and stable housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Lincoln. Greg is the Senior Vice President at UBS Financial, and Dave is the Technology Manager at Allstate Insurance Company. Each of them served as president of the Board and on the Executive, Financial, and Fundraising committees. Their leadership, compassion, and commitment to serving the working poor and homeless were recognized by the Matt Talbot staff and Board during their last meeting of 2020.
During Greg’s and Dave’s tenure on the Board, Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach experienced significant program growth. The substance-use C.A.R.E. Program (Counseling, Advocacy, Referral, and Evaluation/Education) started in 2011, and other programs added during their Board terms included the First HOPE housing program for chronically homeless individuals and families, the Landlord Liaison Project, and Homeless Diversion.
The Mission of the nonprofit Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach is to serve the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of Lincoln’s working poor and homeless through outreach, advocacy, education, and the provision of food and shelter. Their use of evidence-based and compassionate service-delivery modules—including case management and assistance with finding quality, affordable housing—has helped hundreds of individuals and families in finding homes.
