BBB Honors Students of Integrity in Region via 2021 Scott Mecham Scholarship Awards
On April 26, the Better Business Bureau (BBB, BBB.org) announced the winners of the 2021 Scott Mecham Student of Integrity Award Scholarships in BBB’s Metro Lincoln/Greater Nebraska service region—including Kortney Hamer of Central City, Emmalee Harder of Randolph, and Madison Kreifels of Syracuse. The scholarships aim to promote ethics and integrity among young people and motivate them to continue incorporating moral values into every aspect of their lives, with decisions based mainly on the content of a required essay about a situation in which the students were personally involved that tested their ethical philosophy. Each of these graduating students won a $2,000 post-secondary scholarship from BBB’s Education Foundation.
“These Students of Integrity personify all of the best aspects of ethical behavior and fine character in their personal choices and actions,” said BBB President and CEO Jim Hegarty. “Unlike many other scholarships, grades, financial need, and ethnicity are not factors in selecting the recipients. Kortney, Emmalee, and Madison are receiving these scholarships because of their commitment to honesty and accountability inside and outside of the classroom.”
Kortney is graduating from Central City High School and will attend Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. She will be majoring in business administration with a minor in accounting or finance. After receiving a bachelor’s degree, she plans to work in a business and then earn a master’s degree. Emmalee is graduating from Randolph High School and will be attending the University of Nebraska Lincoln to major in elementary and special education. She plans to get involved in organizations and activities that promote the well-being of children and help educate families on good child-rearing practices. Madison is graduating from Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca High School and plans to major in agricultural and environmental sciences communication with a minor in entrepreneurship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is interested in owning her own business to continue her family’s agricultural legacy.
