Goodwill to Host Back-to-School Electronics Drive on August 7
To celebrate the upcoming school year and promote responsible recycling, Goodwill (www.lincolngoodwill.org) is hosting a Back-to-School Electronics Drive on Saturday, August 7. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., donors can bring their extra electronics and small appliances to the Goodwill truck at 4555 Vine St. Every person who donates to Goodwill’s Back-to-School Electronics Drive can enter a raffle to win a variety of prizes—including free school supplies and Goodwill gift cards.
Goodwill makes the most of all electronic donations, no matter the brand or condition. Working electronics will be sold in Goodwill’s retail stores in Lincoln and York, where the revenue helps support job seekers of all backgrounds and abilities on their journey toward employment. Other electronics will be refurbished or responsibly recycled thanks to Goodwill’s partnership with Dell Reconnect. Instead of trashing the donations, Dell carefully breaks down electronics and uses the individual parts to create new technology. In 2020 alone, Goodwill Industries Serving Southeast Nebraska diverted 61,630 pounds of electronics from the local landfill.
Goodwill accepts most electronics and small appliances but does not accept microwaves or televisions. Donors who cannot attend the event can drop off their electronics year-round at Goodwill’s six retail locations during store hours.
