CASA for Lancaster County Partners with Nebraska Bank of Commerce for 5th Year
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates, www.casa4lancaster.org) for Lancaster County has partnered with Nebraska Bank of Commerce for more than five years to provide Christmas gifts to children and youth in the CASA program. This year was no different! At both of Nebraska Bank of Commerce’s locations in Lincoln, “Giving Trees” went up shortly after Thanksgiving. Staff and customers were invited to chose an “ornament” that had a child’s age, gender, and gift ideas. Gifts were then purchased and wrapped and delivered to the CASA office. CASA volunteers and staff then make sure the gifts are distributed.
The holidays can be very stressful and even traumatic for children who have been abused and neglected. The partnership with Nebraska Bank of Commerce undoubtedly makes the season brighter for these kids.
CASA for Lancaster County recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers who advocate on behalf of abused, neglected, truant, and ungovernable children in Juvenile Court. This past year, with the pandemic, has been especially challenging for children in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. CASA volunteers get to know the children, their situation, and then write reports that go directly to the juvenile court judge sharing their observations and recommendations for next steps.
