Arc of Lincoln Receives $2K Philanthropic Donation from UNL Class
On December 1, Arc of Lincoln (www.arclincoln.org) received $2,050 philanthropic donation from the Leading People & Projects (MNGT 411) class at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, taught by Dr. Amber Messersmith. Better known as “Strive to Thrive Lincoln,” UNL College of Business students work together in the course to allocate grants to local nonprofits helping to serve others in the Lincoln community. Funds are made possible through a donation by Rhonda Seacrest and a partnership with the College of Business. Mary Ells, Arc of Lincoln treasurer, represented the Arc at the UNL College of Business Strive to Thrive celebration on December 1. The Arc is grateful to Dr. Messersmith and her students for this donation, which will help the organization further their mission.
The Arc of Lincoln empowers people with developmental disabilities and their families to promote and protect their rights and interests, while enriching the quality of their lives. The Arc’s desire is for all Lincoln residents to understand the needs, challenges, and contributions of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the entire community is vested in assuring equitable opportunities and positive outcomes. Among the Arc’s programs and services, they provide affordable housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They also organize an adult social club that equips transition-aged (roughly 17-21) persons with developmental disabilities with the social and life skills they will need to be successful after they graduate.
