TeamMates Honors Mentors, Mentees, Supporters at Annual Recognition Celebration

TeamMates Mentoring (LincolnTeammates.org) of Lincoln held their annual Recognition Celebration on March 24 at the Lincoln Station Great Hall. This annual event honors volunteer mentors, celebrates mentees who have made great strides, and recognizes the hard work of the school facilitators who organize matches in their buildings.

Twenty-six students nominated their mentors to be inducted into the Mentor Hall of Fame. Says one student of their mentor, “She has helped comfort me during some of the most stressful times in my life, and reassured me that things would be okay.”

Fifteen mentees were given the Student Achievement Award upon nomination by their mentors for feats such as improving grades, participation in extracurricular activities, and maintaining positive attitudes through a challenging past couple of school years amidst the pandemic. TeamMates supporters Bob and Sally Schmieding received the Carmen and Tony Messineo Community Involvement Award due to their youth advocacy and fervent support of TeamMates. A keynote was given by sportscaster, host, and owner of The Ticket 93.7 FM, Derrick Pearson. Pearson is a mentoring advocate and has championed TeamMates this past year. Guests enjoyed food from Premier Catering, another friend of TeamMates.

TeamMates Mentoring makes a meaningful impact in the local community and beyond by inspiring youth to reach their full potential through mentoring. Matches meet once a week in school during the academic year. For more information about TeamMates and becoming a mentor, please visit LincolnTeammates.org.
