People’s City Mission’s 5th Annual 24-Hour GIMME SHELTER Event Set for June 16 – 17
People’s City Mission (PCM, www.pcmlincoln.org) is announcing their 5th Annual 24-Hour GIMME SHELTER event to advocate for the homeless in our community.
For the fifth year in a row, Pastor Tom is going for 24 hours without food, sleep, or shelter as part of the GIMME SHELTER event. From 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 16 to 9 a.m. on Friday, June 17, PCM staff and friends will be outside of HyVee at 84th and Holdrege. Pastor Tom will be talking with guests from the community throughout the 24 hours.
This year, PCM’s doors have been open 24/7 for 115 years, all thanks to the incredible community in Lincoln! All are invited to stop by and help celebrate this remarkable milestone of kindness, compassion, and generosity. If you’re up for the challenge, sit with Pastor Tom for an hour. Call (402) 475-1303 ext. 114 to sign up!
People’s City Mission was started in 1907 by local churches, offering food and shelter for transient and impoverished men, women, and children. In 1987, PCM moved to their current location and now houses 350 men, women, and children nightly in their emergency shelters and the Curtis Center transitional housing program. As Lincoln’s homeless shelter, PCM’s work is more than 97% funded by community donations.
