Disability Rights Nebraska (www.disabilityrightsnebraska.org) is excited to announce that five new advocates from the Lincoln and Norfolk areas successfully completed their training in October 2023. These five individuals have joined 31 others across the state in their mission to assist families in understanding special education processes, empowering them to effectively advocate for their children. They are currently seeking budding advocates to consider joining the next class, set to commence on March 12.
The training will take place online over a six-week period, conducting sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Participants will engage with experts covering various pertinent education topics, including Special Education Law, Evaluations, Assistive Technology, School Cultures and the Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting requirements and processes.
Upon the completion of the training, new advocates commit to supporting others for at least a year, benefiting from access to and guidance from Disability Rights Nebraska staff. Interested individuals are encouraged to join and share this information widely!
The Inclusive Education Lay Advocacy Program provides training in education advocacy to assist families and schools in developing effective Individualized Education Plans for students with disabilities. Training occurs twice per year through an interactive series of free online classes.
