A playground’s surface is just as important as the toys and equipment it holds. Thanks to generous community volunteers, Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties (communityactionatwork.org) replaced much of its playground’s thinning grass, dirt and mulch with soft turf grass at its 26th St. Head Start center. This upgrade allows children to play outside more safely and comfortably.
Volunteers from Nebraska Machinery Company (NMC) and Spreetail made this project possible. They spent a full day pulling up old sod, raking mulch and preparing the area for a new patch of turf.
“This makes such a difference for the children we serve, who can now enjoy the playground space in more kinds of weather,” said Janelle Maybee, Community Action Head Start Enrollment and Compliance Coordinator.
Community Action would like to thank the NMC and Spreetail volunteers who donated their time and efforts to this project.
