This summer, Christian Record Services (christianrecord.org) provided over 100 separate summer-camp experiences for children and adults who are blind or experiencing vision loss. Since its startup in 1967, thousands of campers have experienced camps through National Camps for Blind Children, a program of Christian Record Services.
This summer, campers enjoyed a plethora of indoor and outdoor activities at summer camps in Minnesota, Maine, Indiana, Oklahoma and Colorado. An additional camp will be hosted in Florida in September. Activities included horseback riding, archery, water skiing, crafts, cooking and even zip lining over the lake.
One of the campers this summer shared about his camp experience, “It means so much to all of us, and gives us all a chance to feel normal.”
Each camp is scheduled at a well-equipped site, chosen especially for its high standard of excellence and geographical location. Committed staff and counselors are trained to meet the needs of legally blind campers who are between the ages of nine and sixty-five.
Do you know someone who is blind? Would they be interested in attending a camp such as this next summer? For more information on how to make this happen, visit blindcamp.org.
