Tell us a little about your business. – On Point Insurance is a locally owned agency that helps people find insurance solutions for their specific needs. The staff can help individuals, families and retirees with marketplace insurance for those without cover from an employer, seniors needing Medicare options and adventurers needing travel insurance! We help people all over Nebraska and a few other states including: SD, IA, MO, KS, TX, WY, AZ and FL.
How did you get started in the business? -After working in the regulatory field where I read and wrote lots of reports, I was interested in a career that focused more on directly working with and helping people. I really value connecting with people and problem solving, so insurance seemed like a good fit to use my past skills to fulfill that desire.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Moving and living overseas was very challenging. It was a fun adventure, but it required me to learn about a new culture and a new way of life. Professionally, this meant starting over from scratch and without anyone knowing who I was!
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – If there isn’t a contra (folk) dance going on that day, I can be found gazing at clouds or stars in one of the many beautiful parks that Lincoln has to offer. If the weather is terrible, then I am inside working on a new painting or planning my next art market appearance.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I am a dual US & Australian citizen. People don’t understand why I chose to live in Nebraska. I love the prairie (and my family) just as much as the ocean!
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” – Maya Angelou.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Genuine.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Breathing under water. I love snorkeling and find water very peaceful. There is a whole other world full of beautiful plants and creatures that I would be able to explore more easily!
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – Painting. When I was young, I wanted to be an artist as painting came very naturally to me. I feel very fortunate to have a good work life balance where I can spend my spare time studying and painting nature. It is a relaxing hobby that helps me unwind after a day’s work and it seems to make other people happy too!
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – An art therapist. I enjoy supporting and watching people discover how talented and capable they are. It is amazing how completing a creative task can translate to increased self-esteem in other areas of one’s life.
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – This is a tie between Blue Orchid and The Oven. Both have created very nice atmospheres in their restaurants. I love foods that are full of flavor, and I can’t ever get enough rice!
