Meet Luke Heidenreich, an Architectural Designer at Krueger Development (kruegerdevelopment.com).
Tell us a little about your business. – Krueger Development is a real estate development firm that has been contributing to Lincoln’s residential and commercial for over 30 years. We specialize in developing residential communities, commercial spaces, retail centers and multi-family residences. In my role, I work closely with our engineers, architects and contractors throughout the design development process all the way to project completion. I also work directly with our tenants on their interior buildouts, ensuring they get the spaces they envision when they rent from us.
How did you get started in the business? – I got started in the business because of my grandpa, who was an architect. As a kid, I was obsessed with tree houses. Whenever I went to visit my grandparents, I would make my grandpa draw them, each time telling him the different ways I wanted them to look. When it came time to choose what I wanted to do, I knew architecture was the way to go. After earning my bachelor’s degree, I sought a position where I could continue to learn and grow, that’s when I discovered Krueger Development, where I get to work on a bunch of different projects every day.
Tell us a little about your family. – I am the middle child of a family that lives all over the place. My parents are currently living in Toronto, Canada. My older brother is currently living in California working for a company called Gallo, and my younger brother is in Georgia going to school at Georgia Tech.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – On my days off, I like to spend time with friends and do stuff outdoors. Whether it’s going camping, playing sports or hanging out at the pool. My ideal day would be golfing in the morning then going to a Husker football game at night.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? – If I had a superpower, it would be the ability to teleport. I have family spread out all over the place so I’m always driving or flying to visit them. If I could teleport, I could save on a lot of time spent traveling.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I would like to host a game show. The idea of showing up to work every day to play games sounds like a fun time.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I am currently pursuing my Master of Architecture at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, where I am collaborating with Professor Jeff Day and project partner Jessica Scheuerman from Partners for Livable Omaha on an initiative called “OurStory.” This project, led by Partners for Livable Omaha—who also manage FACT’s Omaha Mobile Stage—aims to design an attainable, age-ready house. Our focus is on addressing the local market’s demand for constructible and financeable designs that can function as standalone small homes, accessory dwelling units, or as part of dense cottage courts and cluster communities. This fall we will be holding a public exhibition of this work at Omaha by Design.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – My favorite books are the six books in the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown.
What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – LeadBelly in the Haymarket, the food is always good.
If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? – LukeH@Kruegerdevelopment.com.
