Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is November 17-23. This is an annual program where people come together across the country to draw attention to the problems of hunger and homelessness. This year, Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (mtko.org) is asking local businesses and community groups to hold blanket drives. New and gently used blankets are needed year-round for individuals experiencing homelessness, but the need is especially great during the winter.

Individuals and groups can also join Matt Talbot in shining the light on hunger and homelessness in Lincoln by participating in their second annual Shine the Light Walk on Sunday, December 8. The one-mile family-friendly walk at Antelope Park allows community members to imagine what homelessness feels like in the winter and learn how to help.

“One of our core values at Matt Talbot is compassion,” said Alynn Sampson, Executive Director. “We invite the community to join us to genuinely understand and help alleviate the suffering associated with homelessness, especially during the cold winter months.”
