Rosie’s Bar & Grill Takes on Downtown

Rosie’s Sports Bar & Grill opened its doors in 2021 downtown on 10th and P Streets, bringing new vibes into where
Single Barrel once stood. Owner Ryan Rosenstiel discusses the history of Rosie’s, starting with the South location.

“We’ve been in business for eight years,” Rosenstiel said. “In 2013, we started off as just a sports bar and grill with a focus on the neighborhood. We quickly grew and doubled the sales in the first year.”

Sales kept doubling and doubling, and when Single Barrel moved into the Graduate, Rosenstiel saw an opportunity and leapt at it.

“With the pandemic, we only lost about 20%, so we took advantage of what we called the ‘COVID Specials.’ Those are when a business needed to get out, and we took a chance down here,” Rosenstiel said.

Born and raised in Cozad, NE, proud Midwest Native Rosenstiel wanted a place for relatives to visit.

“All my friends and families live out west. When they’re in town, they always wanted to come to our place, but it wasn’t downtown. So when they’d come to a game or a big concert, their hotels are downtown,” Rosenstiel said. “They don’t want to be driving back and forth. So now we’re downtown, which means they have no excuses!”

With a bigger space than the South location, Rosie’s can organize more live music. The venue usually hosts country and blues music, but is still able to bring in more local and regional bands.

“We have deals almost every day. I didn’t think I would be doing so many gimmicky things just to get people into the doors—I can’t even keep up with it anymore—but college students love it,” Rosenstiel said. “Tuesdays are open-mic nights, so anyone has the opportunity to get up there and perform.”

On Mondays, Rosie’s has cornhole and, on Wednesdays, they do American Pub Quiz/Karaoke.
