by Jason Ball, President & CEO – Lincoln Chamber of Commerce

2024 has been a remarkable year for the Lincoln community. From significant progress made on transformative projects to collaborative efforts that strengthened our economic vitality, the progress we made together positions Lincoln for an incredibly bright future. And, as we look ahead, it is clear our community is positioned for continued success and prosperity, as we work together to build on this momentum to achieve ambitious goals, including those outlined in the Vitality Lincoln Strategic Plan.

One of the standout achievements of the year was Lincoln’s first-ever intercity visit, a groundbreaking collaboration with the Greater Topeka Partnership. Nearly 120 business and community leaders traveled to Boise, Idaho, one of the fastest-growing mid-size cities in the country, to forge valuable connections and identify new opportunities for community growth. Over two productive working days, we explored how Boise is addressing critical issues such as homelessness, economic development, housing and entrepreneurial support. Building on the success of this inaugural trip, the Lincoln Chamber team and leadership are preparing to announce plans for a 2026 intercity visit early next year, ensuring this impactful initiative continues to shape our community’s future.

I am proud of the work of the Lincoln Chamber’s policy team, serving as a leading voice for the business community, and all of Lincoln, throughout the 2024 Legislative Session and summer Special Session. This dedicated team worked hard to retain business incentives in Lincoln and advance plans for an East Beltway under a working group initiative by the Lincoln Chamber, while also playing an active role in the strategic planning process for the continued success of Lincoln on the Move – just to name a few.

Progress was equally evident in the landscape of Lincoln, with transformative projects like the Sandhills Global Youth Complex and plans for a future Lincoln Convention Center. Set to host young athletes starting in Spring 2025, the Sandhills Global Youth Complex will position Lincoln as a premier destination for youth sports. Meanwhile, the Assemble Lincoln team has laid the groundwork for a new convention center, a key addition to our city’s suite of amenities that will attract events and visitors for years to come.

November 2024 also marked the launch of Latino Connect, a program designed to empower Lincoln’s vibrant Hispanic and Latino business community. Through a series of six events in 2025, Latino Connect will provide valuable connections and resources that foster inclusion and growth, supporting the diverse entrepreneurs of Lincoln. Likewise, Lincoln became Nebraska’s first Kiva Hub in 2024, enabling local entrepreneurs to access interest-free microloans. With a focus on underserved populations such as women and minorities, this program makes Lincoln an even more economically vibrant community for all residents.

I applaud the Lincoln business community for their steadfast leadership, making 2024 a milestone year. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for Lincoln—one marked by growth, innovation and opportunity. Here’s to an exciting and successful 2025!
